Overton, who played for the Tigers from 2015 to 2018, was a key contributor to Clemson's national championship victories in 2016 and 2018. He passed away on March 1, 2023, at the age of 26.
Overton was born in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and attended Kings Mountain High School. He was a standout wide receiver and defensive back in high school, earning All-State honors in both sports. After graduating from high school, Overton committed to play football at Clemson University.
Former Clemson Wide Receiver Diondre Overton Passes Away
Overton quickly made an impact at Clemson. As a true freshman, he played in all 15 games and started four. He caught 22 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. In his sophomore season, Overton played in 13 games and started seven. He caught 19 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns.
In his junior season, Overton became a full-time starter for the Tigers. He played in all 15 games and started 13. He caught 48 passes for 518 yards and three touchdowns. Overton was a key part of Clemson's offense, which helped the Tigers win the 2016 national championship.
