CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson University community is mourning the passing of former wide receiver Diondre Overton. Overton, who played for the Tigers from 2015 to 2018, was a key contributor to Clemson's national championship victories in 2016 and 2018. He passed away on March 1, 2023, at the age of 26.

Overton was born in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and attended Kings Mountain High School. He was a standout wide receiver and defensive back in high school, earning All-State honors in both sports. After graduating from high school, Overton committed to play football at Clemson University.

Overton quickly made an impact at Clemson. As a true freshman, he played in all 15 games and started four. He caught 22 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. In his sophomore season, Overton played in 13 games and started seven. He caught 19 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns.

In his junior season, Overton became a full-time starter for the Tigers. He played in all 15 games and started 13. He caught 48 passes for 518 yards and three touchdowns. Overton was a key part of Clemson's offense, which helped the Tigers win the 2016 national championship.

Overton's senior season was cut short due to a knee injury. He played in only six games and started four. He caught 14 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Despite his injury, Overton was a key part of Clemson's 2018 national championship team.

After graduating from Clemson, Overton signed as a free agent with the New York Jets. He played in four games for the Jets in 2019 but was released during the 2020 season. Overton later signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. He played in nine games for the Alouettes in 2021.

Overton was a talented wide receiver who made a significant contribution to Clemson's success. He was a hard worker and a great teammate. He will be remembered for his infectious smile and his love of the game.
