The tornado touched down in Claremore just before 11 p.m. Saturday and traveled for about two miles, causing significant damage to homes and businesses. The storm also downed trees and power lines, leaving thousands of people without power.
The three people who are in critical condition were all injured in the same home. They were taken to a local hospital, where they are being treated for their injuries.
The other 20 people who were injured in the storm were treated for minor injuries, such as cuts and bruises.
The tornado is the first to hit Claremore since 2019. That tornado was also rated EF-2 and caused extensive damage to the city.
The National Weather Service is urging people to be aware of the risk of tornadoes and to have a plan in place in case of severe weather.
